Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland will certainly not join New York Red Bull but the club is now being linked with another possible Designated Player.
25-year old Ireland has been heavily linked with a move to New York but that appears like it will not go ahead with the Red Bulls now a potential destination for Alexander Hleb.
The 31-year old former Arsenal and Barcelona man is currently with Russian club Krylia Sovetov but has reportedly been offered a deal by New York with head coach Hans Backe revealing there are talks for a potential DP signing.
"Yeah, absolutely. We are looking for that. We are in negotiations but that will probably take time," said Backe.
