No chance Villa will go down says Downing

The quality of the Aston Villa squad will see them through the tough times and keep them in the Premier League come seasons end.

They are the sentiments of winger Stewart Downing who is full of belief that Gerard Houllier's men have what it takes to stave off relegation despite the fact they are just one point off the drop zone and have one win in their last six matches.

Downing used his experiences at Middlesbrough as a sounding board for today's state of affairs at Villa Park and in comparison can see the Villains surviving with plenty in hand.

"I have been in this situation before when I was at Middlesbrough so I know what it is like," he said.

"No disrespect to Middlesbrough but when we went down we had a right good go and just weren't good enough at the end compared to the next-placed team.

"But, if you look at the quality we have got here I think our experience will shine through."
