No Central Coast Mariners move for Sunderland's Yorke

Australian club Central Coast Mariners have rubbished reports that they could be about to sign Dwight Yorke for the next A-League season.

The 36 year-old enjoyed a successful season down under with Sydney FC and helped the club win the 2006 league title.

Yorke, who joined Sunderland in the summer of 2006, told Network Seven that he wanted to talk to the Gosford club and that he still has something to offer.

"No disrespect to the Australian league (but) it's not quite like the Premiership so I feel I can do a great job there again like I did the first year that I went there two years ago," said Yorke.

"It will be a great challenge if the opportunity comes to represent the Mariners next year.

"I just hope that opportunity is given to me to return to Australia."

Central Coast chairman Lyall Gorman admitted that the club had talked to Yorke last year but insisted that a move was not on.

"We spoke to his management way, way, way back. It's not going to happen," he said.
