The beginning of the Spanish Liga season remains in doubt after this weekend's kickoff was delayed.

This weekend's scheduled opening to the Primera and Segunda Division fixtures has already been postponed as a result of a disagreement over the issue of unpaid wages.

Talks will now resume at the start of next week as the two bodies look to avoid the strike going into the second round of the season.

A statement from the LFP today said: "The Association of Spanish Footballers and the Professional Football League will hold a further meeting on Monday, August 22 at 12.00pm in the headquarters of the LFP, which will continue the open dialogue to try to resolve the situation of a strike raised by the AFE.

"Both returned to hold a meeting today, following yesterday's meeting."
