No break for Brockie as attentions turn to New Zealand

Newcastle Jets forward Jeremy Brockie will not be relaxing like his teammates after a tough A-League season.

The 23-year old began to hit form for the Jets toward the end of their season after returning from a three-month layoff with a foot injury and will continue training ahead as he prepares to travel with the New Zealand national team to East Asia next month.

The All Whites tour China and Japan with friendlies on March 24 and 29 and Brockie is keen to push for selection in Ricki Herbert's line-up, so much so that he will train and play with the Jets youth team whilst the rest of the players enjoy some time off.

"Playing for my country is very important to me," Brockie told the Newcastle Herald.

"I need to keep working to make sure I'm in position to put up my hand when Ricki looks at selecting the squad.

"I will carry on training with the youth league and play their final two games.

"That will take me up to the end of February and I'll also put together a training program with Adam Waterson, the Jets' conditioner, and probably find a local team in Newcastle to train with for a couple of nights."

Brockie admits that coming back for seven matches in a short space of time following his injury was at times taxing but insists that he has come out the other end a lot better for the run.

"It was tough on my body to play seven games in the space of four weeks but it was all for the better," he added.

"It showed Ricki I am getting back towards full fitness.

"Now with these last two youth games, hopefully I can get 90minutes in both of them and keep my fitness up."
