Nine-men Chelsea need penalties to see off Norwich

Chelsea needed penalties to dispatch Norwich City in their FA Cup third-round replay at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues went ahead through Michy Batshuayi, who scored a much needed goal as reports continue to link him with an exit from the club.

He took his goal well, finishing neatly from Kennedy's ball across the face of goal.

In dramatic fashion, Norwich equalised in the fourth and final minute of stoppage time through Jamal Lewis.

Extra-time was action packed as Pedro and Alvaro Morata were both sent off, reducing Chelsea to nine men. Pedro was shown his second yellow card for a stern challenge on Wes Hoolahan, while Morata was sent-off after diving in the box and then arguing the case vehemently with referee Graham Scott.

Canaries striker Nelson Oliveira missed the only penalty to allow Chelsea to set up a fourth-round tie against Newcastle.

Speaking after the game, Norwich boss Daniel Farke said his players were distraught.

He toldBBC Sport: "To be honest it's big disappointment, some of the lads are sitting with tears in their eyes in the dressing room. It was a brilliant performance from us and we were so close to winning against the current Premier League champions. I can't praise my lads for their attitude and this performance enough, it's a shame we aren't in the next round, but I'm so proud of my lads.

"I think in general it was a brilliant performance, definitely, we defended well as a team, and we created chances, we hit the post and the bar, so we were close. We showed that when we are at our best we can play with the best teams, so the lads can be confident. But, it won't help us in the next game, and now, we just have to stay concentrated in the league."
