Nigerian forward Adi joins Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers have signed Fanendo Adi on loan from Danish club FC Copenhagen.

The 23-year old Nigerian forward has joined the MLS club for the rest of the 2014 season after netting three times in nine outings for Copenhagen in the 2013/14 Danish SuperLig campaign.

"Fanendo is a young and ambitious player with UEFA Champions League experience and we feel that his acquisition on short-term loan, with the option to purchase, provides a great opportunity for both the player and our club," Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said in a statement.

"This loan allows us to add a quality player into the mix as we are always looking to develop our roster now and in the future."

Adi began his career with Slovakian club AS Trencin in 2009 before moving to Ukraine's Metalurh Donetsk in 2011. He had spells with Dynamo Kyiv, Tavriya Simferopol and back with Trencin before arriving in Copenhagen last year.
