Michael Emenalo is under serious consideration by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for the football director's post.

The Daily Mail says Emenalo, who arrived at the club four years ago, was elevated by Abramovich from his anonymous scouting role to become a first-team coach, midway through last season.

The Nigerian appeared alongside Carlo Ancelotti on the bench following the sacking of Ray Wilkins but the switch made Ancelotti feel ill at ease because Emenalo was viewed by many as the owner's eyes and ears inside the dressing room.
