Nigeria are eager to call up Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi for their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 31-year-old made his debut for the Super Eagles last season, but was left out of the squad for this year's African Cup of Nations.

The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed that a clause had been removed from Ameobi's contract that would allow him to re-start his international career.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi said: "The national team can do with his experience."
