The New England Revolution's 4-2 win over Santos Laguna in the SuperLiga Group B opener was a result of many factors.
With conditions being difficult in the game due to heavy rain on a synthetic turf pitch, Revolution head coach Steve Nicol was more than happy with his teams passion and spirit.
"We've got plenty of heart and passion for the game, I think you saw that tonight." Nicol said after the game.
"The equalizer's just a product of the conditions tonight, it's slippery. The ball skates of (Emmanuel) Osei's head, ricochets of his head and finishes it well.
"We end up scoring another one and then you're asking questions of your team and what they're made of. Certainly didn't play any silky soccer tonight, but we played enough decent football that we made some chances and scored four goals, so can't complain about it now. We're disappointed that (Kevin) Alston and (Steve) Ralston had to come off with tight hamstrings which are obviously not good; it obviously gives us a huge problem in the next few weeks."
