Nicholas: There are not many more exciting players than England trio Alli, Kane and Barkley

Charlie Nicholas believes England are a massive chance to succeed at this summer's European Championships.

The former Arsenal star suggests that Roy Hodgson has a talented group at his disposal, including an in-form Tottenham pair and an Everton young gun, who have the ability to cause plenty of problems in France, making England good value to overcome the more favoured sides in Germany, France, Spain and Belgium.

"For me England have to be considered genuine contenders for the Euros and I'd say 9/1 or even 8/1 are very long odds for a side which have just turned over the world champions," he said on Sky Sports prior to Tuesday night's 2-1 friendly loss to Holland at Wembley.

"It may have only been a friendly but beating Germany in their own backyard is a huge step forward and it's a tremendously exciting time.

"There aren't many more exciting players in Europe than Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Ross Barkley and the debate as to whether Wayne Rooney deserves to start has been cranked up again.

"At Christmas I would have said England would be aiming at the quarter-finals and maybe the semi-finals at best, but it's looking wide open right now."
