Ngog conned the referee - Birmingham boss McLeish

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish believes the incident involving young Liverpool striker David Ngog to win a penalty late in the second half was shameful.

The French forward went down in the area while under slight pressure from Blues skipper Lee Carsley and the referee pointed to the spot much to the dismay of Birmingham players, officials and fans as they were leading 2-1 at the time.

Reds captain Steven Gerrard converted from the spot to take a share of the points and Birmingham were left ruing a missed opportunity.

"This is a shame for the game," McLeish said of the penalty.

"He conned the referee and got his team a penalty. Peter Walton is a good referee but he got that one wrong. If it hadn't been for the penalty, I thought we'd have gone on to win it."
