Indianapolis Colts' number one selection from the 2012 NFL draft, Andrew Luck, may have ended up in the USA national soccer team had he pursued his initial sporting love.
The 22-year old Stanford University quarterback was this week taken with the very first pick by the Colts but it has emerged that he actually grew up with soccer.
Luck was born in Washington DC but moved to Europe with his family to spend the first ten or so years of his life in Germany and England where he formed a deep love for the world game.
His father, Oliver Luck, was also the first president and general manager of MLS club Houston Dynamo, guiding them to the 2006 and 2007 titles.
When Luck was asked by Sporting News if he would trade his American football career to be in the US soccer team, his reply was: "No, but that's a really tough question,"
suggesting he perhaps could have been good enough to make it at the top in the round ball code.
