Martin Jol is in the frame for the job at Newcastle United. Jol has left Ajax by mutual consent.

The Amsterdammers lie fourth in the Eredivisie table, five points off leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Jol, who only took charge of Ajax in May last year, claimed the expectations at the Amsterdam ArenA were too high.

The former Tottenham manager is now thought to be a leading contender for the vacant manager's job at Newcastle, where his former Spurs assistant, Chris Hughton, was sacked on Monday afternoon.
