Eddie Newton is in the frame to succeed Rafa Benitez at Chelsea.
The Daily Star says should the Blues flop against West Brom, they will consider approaching Roberto Di Matteo's assistant Newton, 41, to see out the season.
Tellingly, when Di Matteo was axed, Stamford Bridge favourite Newton was kept on and has been overseeing the progress of out-on-loan players.
