West Bromwich Albion have cleared the decks following the sacking of manager Roberto di Matteo.
The Daily Star says Di Matteo was summoned to the training ground yesterday morning less than 24 hours after a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City a defeat which left them just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Assistant Eddie Newton, a teammate of Di Matteo's at Chelsea, and head of sports science Ade Mafe were also axed with Di Matteo placed on gardening leave.
Michael Appleton is currently in charge as caretaker.
