Maximiliano Urruti’s much-talked about move to Toronto FC appears to be on the verge of actually happening.
The 22-year old Argentine striker has been heavily linked with the Canadian club since April but a deal has not yet been agreed upon.
With Urruti in Toronto training with the team, his club Newell’s Old Boys, released a statement confirming that a verbal agreement had now been reached with MLS regarding his transfer.
“Newell’s Old Boys arrived at a verbal agreement with Major League Soccer by which this Association recognizes the rights possessed Newell’s and therefore (should be) financially rewarded to the effects that the player can sign with a club in this league,” the club said.
“Financial terms will be announced once the agreement is approved.”
Urruti, who last played for Newell’s in the first half of July, has scored 12 goals in 57 appearances for the Argentine club.
