Newcastle's Smith backs Arsenal striker Eduardo to make comeback

Newcastle United striker Alan Smith is confident Arsenal's Eduardo da Silva will bounce back from his injury nightmare - just like he did.

Smith, 27, broke a leg and dislocated an ankle in February 2006 at Anfield while playing for Manchester United in the FA Cup.

But the England star returned to action just seven months later and he hopes Eduardo can do the same.

Smith has had 28 outings since joining Newcastle for £6million in the summer and said: "I can understand what Eduardo's going through.

"Hopefully they can get him back playing football again in the near future.

"My main aim this season was to play as much football as possible.

"I have managed to do that and stay clear of any injury."
