Newcastle's Smith backed to break duck against Man Utd

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan wouldn't be surprised if Alan Smith hit his first goal for the club against Manchester United today.

KK said: "It's lovely to go back to your old club and get a result even if you enjoyed your time there. Every player likes that.

"To go there and get beaten is never pleasant, but to go there and get beaten 6-0 will have hurt Nicky Butt and Alan Smith.

"But we can do something about it this time. They will get another opportunity tomorrow.

"They can put that one behind them. That one will be history and everyone will be talking about Sunday's result.

"Football is a strange game. Alan Smith will get his first goal for us soon, and once that first one comes he will score two and hopefully three in a game."
