Newcastle striker Michael Owen will start for England against Estonia next Saturday.
The News of the World says Owen had surgery for a hernia just eight days ago but he will lead the line for England in Saturday's vital Euro 2008 qualifier.
Owen was training flat out on Friday, just six days after surgery in Munich.
Magpies manager Sam Allardyce is keen not to take any unnecessary risks with his key man.
Yet a source close to the player said: "Michael is fine. He will have discussions with the medical staff after the Everton game but is confident about his fitness and is ready to play for England."
