Newcastle's Guthrie: I'll get goals from midfield

Danny Guthrie is confident he can get goals from Newcastle United's midfield this season.

The former Liverpool midfielder told the Evening Chronicle: "Scoring goals is something I am looking to add to my game.

"At Bolton it was tough last year because they were struggling. There weren't many chances and we always seemed to be hanging on. Playing in a team where the level is higher, the boys find you when you are in space.

"They give you options on the ball and it make it easier."

Guthrie has worked hard to cement a place in the starting line-up for the opening game of the season against Manchester United, and says his aims are crystal clear for the season ahead.

He added: "My aim is to be in the first XI and play every game.

"By having a good pre-season that puts me up there with a chance."
