Newcastle's Carroll ponders loan exit

Andy Carroll was delighted to make his full Newcastle United debut in Sunday's defeat at Everton.

"I just want to come back fit and push for the first team," the big Geordie told Newcastle's website. "If I have to go on loan I will. My aim over the summer is to rest.

"We have a few England games as well. But the aim is just to come back ready for next season."

Toon boss Kevin Keegan was naturally disappointed after yesterday's defeat at Goodison Park, and the flat finish to the season was also reflected in the dressing-room verdict from Carroll.

He added: "It was disappointing to lose.

"But on a personal note, it was a great way to end the season.

"We didn't get the victory we were looking for and it was disappointing for the lads to go away on holiday after getting beaten on the last day of the season."
