Newcastle United defender Sebastien Bassong hopes to see action in tonight's Carling Cup tie with Tottenham.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "This is an exciting competition and I love playing in it.

"It is too early to say whether we can win the competition. But we just have to keep playing well in it and take our chances.

"The last round was difficult but we played as a team."
