Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton is facing trial by TV after last night's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.
The Daily Mail says Barton is facing trial by TV after an ugly spat with Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor in Newcastle's 2-0 win. Barton has a suspended six-match ban hanging over him from the Ousmane Dabo assault.
Referee Steve Bennett, who later booked Barton for a high-studs challenge on Luke Young, missed the first-half incident in which Barton clipped Agbonlahor's nose as the pair contested a foul against Barton. He also seemed to hit him on the back.
Newcastle assistant manager Chris Hughton said he too missed it but said: "Any incident involving Joey will be blown up twice as much, but he knows he has to be twice as careful."
