Newcastle young gun Armstrong scoops League One award for Coventry

Coventry City's Adam Armstrong has been named the SkyBet League One Player of the Month for August.

The 18-year-old striker, who is on loan from Premier League club Newcastle United, starred in the opening month of the 2015/16 season for the Sky Blues.

Armstrong scored five goals in five outings for his loan side who won three and drew one of their five fixtures to sit fifth on the tier three table.

The League One leading scorer found the back of the net twice in a 2-0 home win over Wigan Athletic, netted a mother double in the 4-0 away mauling of Millwall and added another strike in the 3-2 win over Crewe Alexandra.

Of the award, Armstrong said: “It's a great honour to win the award and totally unexpected.

“I'm always confident I can get goals but I never thought I'd get off to the start I have done at Coventry.

“Everyone from the manager and his staff, to the players and all the fans, have made me feel so welcome at the club. This award is for all of them really.

“Hopefully it won't be the only success we can achieve together this season."

Walsall boss Dean Smith landed the Manager of the Month award for the Saddlers' undefeated start to the campaign which has them sitting aloft the table with 13 of a possible 15 points.
