Newcastle United feel they have found their new No9 in Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga.

The People says reports that they plan to sign France striker Olivier Giroud from Montpellier and Auxerre's Burkina Faso star Alain Traore are wide of the mark.

Giroud is considered too similar in style to Newcastle's current strike force of Ba, Leon Best and Shola Ameobi.

And despite reports to the contrary, Newcastle have no interest in Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell.
