Newcastle winger Sammy Ameobi thrilled to break record with brother Shola

Sammy Ameobi was delighted to start for Newcastle United alongside brother Shola in their 2-2 draw at Europa League opponents Club Brugge.

Both Sammy and Shola Ameobi became the first brothers to start a game for 60 years.

In doing so they were the first siblings since George and Ted Robledo to start a match for the Magpies.

A beaming Sammy told the Evening Chronicle: "It is a great honour - it is great for our parents and our family.

"They are so proud of us. We do not take anything for granted - we have worked hard to get where we are.

"I am glad I have had the opportunity to start alongside Shola.

"It was my first start with my brother.

"It is a great memory and it is something I will cherish for a long time. I am glad to have contributed to his goal and to have won us a point."
