Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi is determined to build on his appearance in defeat to Swansea City.

The start cushioned the blow of missing out on England under-21 duty, but the Geordie boy is enthusiastic about his future on the big international circuit.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "This is just the beginning for me - I am looking to progress.

"I am glad I have got back into the under-21 squad.

"It is massive for me. I want to represent my country.

"I am looking forward to that opportunity. I want to keep building and long-term I want to get myself into the first-team squad with Newcastle and England."
