Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez has welcomed Diego Maradona's appointment as Argentina coach.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "It was good to beat West Brom, but we knew that Diego Maradona was coming to manage our country and that it may be happening, so it had been the talk of the changing room.

"Diego Maradona is our best ever player and we now have him as manager.

"Playing under him would be very good for me. It would be a big honour to play for one of my boyhood heroes. It would be for all the players and he can make us better players."
