Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton says he expects to make signings that will excite people.
Hughton has been linked with loan moves such as Manchester United duo Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck and Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere.
And when asked if the players he has in mind will excite Newcastle fans, he told the Evening Chronicle: "I hope so. Among all that we want to do pre-season, there's also, of course, a realisation that there aren't the finances that there were before.
"If I look at some of the big-name signings this club has made in the past for big money, there's a realisation we're not in those times now.
"What we have to make sure we do is bring in the right players, rather than names that are just going to excite.
"We have to add to what we've already got, improve what we've got, and are going to be fixtures in the team that we have.
"Among all of that, there will be transfers this summer, and we will be involved in some transfer dealings this summer."
