Newcastle United are following Barnsley midfielder Jacob Butterfield.

The Sunday Sun says Toon are watching Butterfield as a replacement for Bosman prospect Danny Guthrie.

The England under-21 man has rejected the offer of a new contract from the Tykes - although Toon would need to pay compensation for his services. His knee problems are a concern, however, for Newcastle management.
