Newcastle United are waiting for Aston Villa to drop their asking price for Darren Bent.
The Evening Chronicle says sources close to Villa confirmed they are still looking for "at least £8m" for the 29-year-old striker but have so far yet to receive a bid for the player.
That fee is too high for Newcastle and the other clubs chasing Sunderland's former centre-forward - a list which includes Hull City and Fulham - as are his wages, which are believed to be £70,000 a week.
