Newcastle United are eyeing Ajax fullback Gregory van der Wiel.

The Evening Chronicle says Toon could turn to Ajax right-back Van der Wiel - if they can't get their bid for Lille's Mathieu Debuchy back on track.

The Magpies have been offered van der Wiel and it is thought that the unhappy defender is keen on the move to Tyneside.

With his contract up next year, he is available at a cut-price deal and, at 24, is the right age bracket as far as Newcastle are concerned.
