Newcastle United are taking a look at the younger brother of midfielder Mehdi Abeid.

The Evening Chronicle says Walid Abeid played 45 minutes for Newcastle United reserves today in their 4-0 defeat against Sunderland at the Academy of Light.

Abeid, who is 19, came on at half-time for Geordie teenager Adam Campbell and showed some good touches in the behind closed doors fixture on Wearside.

Abeid junior had previously been on trial at Middlesbrough and has played for St Etienne and Fulham earlier in his career.
