Jonathan Legear claims Newcastle have expressed an interest in acquiring his services. Legear is highly-rated in Belgium after helping Anderlecht win the championship last season and scouts from several clubs across Europe have been monitoring his progress.
Magpies boss Chris Hughton is believed to have travelled to Belgium to watch Legear as he weighs up a bid in the January transfer window.
Legear claims Newcastle have contacted his agent about a possible move to England, but the 23-year-old is refusing to get carried away by the transfer speculation.
"Newcastle has contacted my agent to let him know they are interested in me," Legear told La Derniere Heure.
"I need to prove again and show if I have the level to play in the Premier League."
Reports in Belgium claim Everton are also keeping tabs on Legear with Toffees boss David Moyes having watched him on three occasions this season.
