Ian Cathro could quit Valencia for Newcastle United in the coming weeks.

The Evening Chronicle says Toon boss Steve McClaren is set to meet his existing backroom staff on Saturday as he continues his own review of United affairs.

The Newcastle head coach is yet to confirm his assistant manager but Cathro, the Scottish coach who has been working with Valencia, is a front-runner for a key role.
