Newcastle target McGhee admits Premiership ambitions

Motherwell boss Mark McGhee admits he has Premiership ambitions. McGhee was in the bookies' frame for the West Ham job before Gianfranco Zola was appointed and is still an outside bet for one of his old clubs as a player, Newcastle.

He said: "I thought I was capable of going from Wolves to a Premiership club and I won't feel totally fulfilled as a manager unless I end up in that division one day.

"I want to test myself at the highest level and I don't mind being linked with the jobs at places like West Ham and Newcastle. It means the job I'm doing at Motherwell is being taken seriously elsewhere.

"I won't make a play for any job down south but I would one day like to be judged by performances."
