Newcastle target Liverpool forward Origi to replace Gayle

Rafa Benitez has looked towards his former club to try and replace the outgoing Dwight Gayle.

The Newcastle forward is close to returning to the Championship with Leeds United.

And Benitez believes he has a chance of securing Liverpool forward Divock Origi to fill the Englishman's boots.

The 22-year old has been made available on loan, with a number of big clubs including Roma, Monaco and Tottenham interested in taking him on.

Despite their inferiority, the Magpies are in contention for Origi because they will be able to guarantee the Belgian a greater amount of playing time.

Origi could however, be included in a deal for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, who has been the subject of two failed bids from the Reds.
