Newcastle United want to go French for their next manager.
The Daily Star Sunday says Newcastle are drawing up a shortlist of potential successors with Frenchmen Christophe Galtier and Remi Garde viewed as possible replacements.
St Etienne's Galtier and Lyon's former Arsenal midfielder Garde are both 48.
Garde left his position as Lyon manager at the end of last season, citing personal reasons. And Galtier's current side are currently fourth in League 1.
It is also said that Newcastle have been impressed with the job being done at north east neighbours Middlesbrough by Spaniard Aitor Karanka, 41.
