Newcastle United are casting their net wide for new talent.

Newcastle are keeping a close eye on the French market, which offers better value than some of the other leagues in Europe, says the Evening Chronicle.

United are set to stick with their policy of unearthing youngsters from the Continent, and their work on the scouting front has been ongoing since the transfer window shut.

Chief scout Graham Carr was at Denmark's 2-0 win over Norway and he, Alan Pardew and the rest of the Magpies backroom team will be taking in matches during the international fortnight.

Pardew took in Switzerland's 3-1 win over Bulgaria last time out to check out long-standing target Eren Derdiyok.
