Charlie Austin is expected to ask QPR to lower their £15million asking price for him, following a lack of genuine interest in the striker from English Premier League clubs.
According to reports on telegraph.co.uk, the most serious offer for Austin so far this summer has come from Newcastle United, who are willing to pay £10million for his services.
Austin scored 18 English Premier League goals for QPR last season and is understood to be desperate to remain in the top flight in order to maintain his place in Roy Hodgson's England squad.
Austin's former manager at QPR, Harry Rednapp believes a move to Newcastle would be the best option for the 25-year-old.
"A move to Newcastle would be the best one for Charlie Austin," Redknapp said.
"He's rumoured to be on Chelsea's radar as well but, no disrespect to him, he won't make their starting line-up. They only play one up front and he's not going to replace Diego Costa.
"He's 25 and he's scored some good goals, and I think Newcastle would be a good move for him and a good challenge. He's a good lad and knows Steve McClaren from when Steve was at QPR, and I reckon he'll do well at Newcastle."
