Newcastle United have made an offer for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
The Evening Chronicle says the Magpies could get the French international for a knockdown fee but they are yet to enter discussions over personal terms.
Joe Kinnear is hoping that United make a breakthrough in the transfer market this week after he sanctioned the official bid for Lyon ace Gomis following dialogue with both Alan Pardew and owner Mike Ashley.
United are yet to talk to Gomis or his representatives about wages but remain hopeful they can make progress with the 27-year-old over the next couple of days.
