Newcastle United are plotting an ambitious swoop for Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to reports from The Sun.
Sigurdsson is expected to be a much coveted player during the summer window following another fantastic campaign for a struggling Swansea side and Everton have been mentioned as the party with the strongest interest in the Icelandic international.
Now in surprise claims, Championship leaders Newcastle are said to be keen on signing Sigurdsson and manager Rafael Benitez will hope to lure the 27-year-old to St. James' Park next season for around £15million if the Magpies earn promotion into the Premier League.
A source told SunSport: "Rafa knows he can't just go out there and buy the biggest names in their first season back - but Gylfi would be a good-value addition to his squad."
