The Daily Star reports that north east rivals Newcastle United and Sunderland have joined the chase for highly-rated Celtic centre-half Virgil van Dijk.
The report states that both clubs are poised to make bids for the Dutch defender if they manage to survive relegation from the Premier League this term.
Van Dijk has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Southampton and recently confirmed that he will be willing to a move if an opportunity presents itself.
He said: "Celtic is a great club but I want to develop and if the opportunity was there, I would definitely consider a transfer."
