Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger is grateful to Barnsley for taking a chance on him.

Ranger joined Barnsley on-loan after a series of off-the-field incidents on Tyneside.

Ranger is fully aware he is seen as damaged goods, which is why he is so grateful to the Tykes for giving him another chance.

"People in football look at me and say, 'Yes, we like him. On the pitch he is good but off it - a problem'," he acknowledged.

"So no clubs have wanted to touch me, if I am being completely honest.

"Thank God for Barnsley then. They sat me down and said they were going to take a risk and I am grateful for that."
