Newcastle United striker Michael Owen is closing in on a return from his ankle injury.

Owen has been sweating through twice-daily training sessions on holiday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

Newcastle United have permitted the striker to fly to Portugal for a break with his family, but the 29-year-old has been accompanied by John Green, his personal fitness trainer, and has been running every morning, followed by intensive gym work.
