Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has had a bust-up with England U21 coach Stuart Pearce.
The Sunday Mirror says Carroll limped off with an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux on August 28.
After an early assessment by Toon physio Derek Wright, who also works with the England-21 squad, it was decided that Carroll wouldn't be fit enough to join up with the Under-21 party that was due to fly from Luton to Portugal 48 hours later.
But Pearce was unhappy and demanded that Carroll turn up, even though he was going to be assessed by the same physio who had ruled him out in the Newcastle dressing room.
It appears the club and player became embroiled in a row with Pearce, who climbed down on.
But Pearce remained unhappy about the situation, which was raised when Capello suggested that he was thinking about promoting Carroll to the senior squad.
