Newcastle striker Carroll hopes hat-trick caught Keegan's eye

Andy Carroll hopes his hat-trick for Newcastle United's reserves in their 5-0 thumping of Middlesbrough will have caught the eye of new gaffer Kevin Keegan.

Big Andy told the Evening Chronicle: "It's so important to get goals for any striker. With a new manager coming in, I want to impress.

"Goals can only help you do that. The manager wasn't there last night, but hopefully he will hear about it.

"Last year when I played against Middlesbrough I got a hat-trick in the same fixture and a few people said before the game I would do it again.

"Thankfully that happened. And coming in a derby game makes it even more special."
