Newcastle still have a lot to achieve in 2015 says Carver

Newcastle United may be sitting in no man's land but there is still plenty to play for according to head coach John Carver.

The Magpies are currently placed 11th on the Premier League where they find themselves 13 points above the relegation zone and nine points off a possible European spot.

That might say to some that it could be time to experiment with a few things on the pitch but Carver insists he is only thinking of recording as many points as possible in order to produce a memorable finish for the Toon.

"Since I've had this position I've never thought about going down, only up," he said ahead of Wednesday night's clash with Manchester United.

"There's no way in the world I'm going to allow this club to go flat and not continue to try and get as many points on the board as we can."

Newcastle have a number of key players sidelined with knee injuries at present but Carver will not use these absences as a justification for any negative results.

"You can make excuses but I am prepared to win with whatever I have got available and I've just got to get on with it," he added.

"On the positive side of that, we have got three players coming back next week, and that is very important."
