Sporting CP centre-back Ruben Semedo has snubbed a move to the Premier League after he signed with Villarreal for an undisclosed fee.

Semedo was being pursued by Newcastle, with the Magpies reportedly ready to launch a £17.5m bid for the Portuguese.

Southampton were also interested in the 23-year old.

However, Semedo has instead decided to join the Yellow Submarine, who finished fifth last season in La Liga.
